We May Be Missing The Best Time of Year
You know what we’re missing right now? Enjoying the snow!
That’s a dumb thing to say, isn’t it?
Well, look at it this way: The snow we have on the ground hereabouts right now is the best snow we’ve had for years. Why? I’ll tell you why.
To start with, this is the first REAL snow we’ve had all winter (and probably the last). You want at least one real snow every winter, don’t you? After all, this is Indiana. If you don’t like it here, go to Florida in the winter – and it will serve you right. When a beautiful Spring does come, you won’t appreciate it the way we do when we stay all winter in Indiana. Hoosiers are better people because they tough-it out up here in the winter and deserve the Spring.
Back to the snow. When did this one hit – about a month ago? Dropped 6 or 8 inches on us? What was the first reaction? I’ll tell you what the first reaction was: Panic! “Oh! We can’t go out. We might fall down.” Actually, anybody could go out and drive anywhere, because the city workers did a mighty fine job of clearing the streets. Almost all traffic was moving within a couple of days, even though we got hit with another blast.
Pretty soon everything was covered (the way it should be in winter) — fields, rooftops, evergreen trees. Suddenly, we had a “Winter Wonderland” – and if you don’t think so, you’re getting too old to remember when you wanted a sled for Christmas.
Why is this snow special? Because it won’t go away. Usually, especially at this time of year, when we get a big snow, it starts to melt after a few days. This time, the temperature won’t let it go. A steady 32 degrees or below has kept the entire snow covering right where it is. Usually, after a few days, it begins to turn to slush – old brown or gray hulks replacing the white stuff.
Now, here comes something else. Have you noticed that every few days, when the fields and piles of heaped-up snow begin to look a little shopworn, a new arrival greets us out of the sky, a slight dusting of immaculate whiteness covers all the aging remnants. And once again, we have a pristine renewal.
If you don’t think so, go to the window with your new eyes of appreciation and enjoy the Winter Wonderland right here where you live.

Outstanding bit of truth!!! However even a good thing has its
perfect duration. This has outlived that.
