Try Hugging Elephants, They’ll Need It
Analysis of election (short):
Ain’t democracy grand?
Front porch pronouncement: We’re all Americans, so we’re going to work together. We’re going to reach across the aisle to our colleagues on the other side. Back room strategy session: How are we going to make those other son-of-a-guns look bad?
More sober view: We are entering the Era of Hope. Hope is the reassurance of things not seen. And boy, are there a lot of unseen things.
Look for the defeated partisans to blame the loss on media bias. The answer is no (but maybe more later).
Personal learning curve: Don’t waste time arguing with either of two sorts: 1) Die-hard Republicans or Yellow Dog Democrats, or 2) Single-Issue voters. Independents Rule!
One thing for which we have to commend George W. Bush: He sure helped get out the vote.
