Politics Today: At Least It’s Short
I’m still having trouble writing stuff too long, so I’m going to write a short one before the next one, which will probably be too long. That way, I’ll get credit for the short one to use against the long one – kind of like industrial polluters do in buying credit from non-polluters, so they can go on polluting.
Everything this season has to be political, so here’s something to fill space until the long one follows in a couple of days.
Do you like coincidences?
This week, two candidates for State Superintendent of Public Instruction came to town. Both quality guys. The Republican guy named Tony Bennett comes from Southern Indiana and the Democrat guy is from Lafayette, named Richard Wood (his friends call him Dick). Here’s the story: Remember when we had a president of Earlham College named Richard Wood, usually called Dick Wood. The Earlham president who followed our Dick Wood is called Dr. Bennett, same name as the Dr. Bennett running against Dick Wood from Lafayette. Isn’t that some coincidence?
Well, anyway, it’s political – not to mention being irrelevant, unimportant, inconsequential, and sort of dumb.
But it’s short.
